One of the great joys in life are children.They are great experiences of happiness when we were kids.And now they are wonderful experiences since we are now parents.When we find ourselves as the parents we are going to have the job of helping them succeed. 

I would like to examine how to help children become successful in regards to sports.  This is from a perspective of helping kids with my sports psychologist in San Diego practice.  Now that is not to say that sports is everything.But there is a lot to learn from the things that take place in sports.Lessons that will be valuable in teaching kids about life.

But one of the issues that parents have when trying to push their kids to success is the pressure.  Often times the pressure of wanting them to do well gets to the children.This type of pressure can often cause them to fail instead of succeeding.  It is at this point that you may need a family counselor in San Diego to help out.

Anxiety disorders are increasing, and it seems a very recent thing. Anxiety disorders can be paired with panic disorders, which also includes panic and anxiety attacks. They are no different in symptoms or severity.

Is there a reason we seem to be suffering more attacks in the modern day? I’m sure there is and doctors and scientists can probably trot out a million different reasons. Regardless of cause, the serious of the condition remains for the sufferer.

How Toys Can Shape Your Psychology

Everyone has a toy that they favoured when they were younger. It’ll be the one you took with you everywhere you went and had a hissy fit about whenever you couldn’t find it. Maybe without even knowing it, you probably had a type of toy that you played with most, be it balls or building block or perhaps it was toy cooking apparatus. Well, new research by the London Institute of Psychology has revealed that the toys we play with when we are younger have a large influence on our personalities when we get older. Below we examine some of the more interesting points the research highlighted.

1. Those children who were encouraged to play with educational toys didn’t become more intelligent, but were more analytical in their approach to problems in later life. The research showed that learning toys developed patience and taught people to break down a problem into its simplest parts in order to overcome tasks

2. Children that favoured playing with toys that looked like humans (such as dolls), tended to have more advanced interaction skills and could communicate better as an adult. I has been suggested that any object that vaguely replicates a human encourages children to communicate with it and share any musings that they have with it.

3. Probably the most interesting finding from the research was that children who always had access to toys wherever they were, not only had more confidence in later life but had better earnings. This means if children played with bath toys, took toys out and about with them and had access to toys at friends houses etc, they became more successful in later life.

There is of course the argument of unknown cause and effect which could undermine this research potentially. For example, did the boy become more analytical by playing with his puzzle, or did he choose the puzzle because he was more analytical by nature? In reality its probably somewhere in the middle, but nevertheless the research is still quite revealing.

Dream Interpretation and Analysis

Every person dreams.  However some people want to know what their dreams mean. That’s where dream interpretation comes into the picture. Some people consider this a science some people consider it an art .  Either way it can be a lot of fun.

The Greeks and Egyptians believed dreams were communications from the gods.  Astrologers and soothsayers performed dream interpretation.  There were temples in ancient Greece where people could go to be cured of various conditions.  It was believed that the gods would cure them with divine grace delivered through dreams.  A priest attended the temple to help people determine the meaning of their dreams, and thus the intended cures from the gods.  In ancient Egypt dream interpretation was one of the duties of a priest.  The Bible stories show Joseph interpreting dreams for the Pharaoh.  Hieroglyphics depict  the art of dream interpretation.

Dream analysis became popular in psychology with the work of Sigmund Freud. He published a book in 1899 called The Interpretation of Dreams. He claimed that dreams express people’s desires and inner wishes. He also held that dreams were always based on the previous day’s events. Freud developed the concept of the inner censor as the regulating portion of the mind that communicated through dreams. He later changed the name to the super ego.

Freud talked about people’s abilities to resist things.  In other words when they are awake they self censored themselves.  People keep a tight grip on their actions and their thoughts.  The filters still operate when people dream, so the dreams have many strange images.  Freud came up with a standard set of distortions that were present in dreams, and applied these in dream interpretation.  He used these to analyze the patient based on the imagery present in the dream.

Freud believed nightmares had nothing to do with fear or bad events.  Instead they were the result of the ego being frustrated at not being allowed free reign. It is often thought that everything in Freud dream interpretation had to do with sex. But Freud himself expressed frustration that his work with dream interpretation was often wrongly applied to this result.

Anxiety Test – Should You Take One?

Could you identify a panic attack if you had to? I can say from experience they are darn scary and it wasn’t even me having the attack! I happened to be in a car with my wife driving while she had an anxiety attack.

The treatment for anxiety is not a simple quick fix process. Many sessions have to be attended to come to terms with the issues invovled. If the person has reached the stage where every little thing becomes a big deal, discovering why they are so anxious quickly becomes more important.
